Each October, Camp Helen State Park opens its annual pumpkin patch. Stop by to pick out a pumpkin, take a few fall photos and spend some time exploring the park while you're there.
The pumpkin patch typically opens October 1 and continues until the pumpkins sell out, so plan this one earlier in the month if it's on your list.
Catch an Outdoor Movie at Eden Gardens
Thursday nights in October mean outdoor movies at Eden Gardens State Park. Their annual October Film Series is a fun excuse to spend an evening outside once the temperatures start cooling down.
Bring chairs, blankets, a cooler and bug spray then settle in for the movie. Concessions are available too. Check the current year's schedule to see what's playing during your stay.

Several local companies can take care of the setup, chairs, fire and cleanup, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy it.
Spend an Afternoon in Rosemary Beach

Places to Eat on 30A
October evenings are hard to beat on 30A, especially when dinner involves a patio, a good happy hour or somewhere you can settle in and stay awhile. For this month's list, we're mixing a few date-night favorites with casual spots and some of our go-to orders.
Gallion's
If you haven't tried the infamous butter candle at Gallion's, yes, it's worth the hype. But don't let that be the only reason you go. The food here is superb whether you're stopping in for brunch, après beach or dinner.
It's a wonderful option for girls' happy hour or a romantic night out. Just keep in mind that Gallion's is 18+ after 3 PM.
But seriously, start with the butter candle. Trust us on this one.
Cuvée 30A
Cuvée 30A has one of the best happy hours on 30A and even better, it runs a little later from 4 to 7 PM. Add in nightly specials and a menu from Chef Tim Creehan and there's plenty of reason to come back more than once.
The short rib is a favorite, and do yourself a favor and order extra eggplant croutons for the table.
Pickle's Sandbar
Right in Seaside and just steps from the beach, Pickle's Sandbar is perfect for a laid-back lunch, happy hour or casual dinner. With all outdoor seating, October is an especially nice time to hang out, enjoy the cooler weather and catch that Gulf breeze.
The smash burgers are hard to beat, the fried pickles are a must and the pickle margarita is one you shouldn't knock until you try it. It's a favorite around here for a reason.

Down Island Gulf Seafood Restaurant
Just off 30A in Santa Rosa Beach, Down Island Gulf Seafood Restaurant is a local favorite that's well worth adding to your list. You'll find fresh seafood, wood-fired oysters and a rotating specials menu with something new to try.
The BBQ shrimp will make you think New Orleans and the oysters are an every-time order. Down Island serves brunch, lunch and dinner, so it's an easy one to work into your plans.
Basmati's Asian Cuisine
Fresh sushi, Asian-inspired dishes, great cocktails and one of the coziest screened-in porches for a fall evening. Basmati's Asian Cuisine is an easy choice when you're ready to switch things up from the seafood and Southern fare you'll find throughout 30A.
If the weather is nice, ask for a table on the porch.
Chanticleer Eatery
If there's a restaurant on this list that feels made for a cozy October lunch, Chanticleer Eatery might be it. Their Pick 2 makes it hard to pass up tomato soup and grilled cheese once there's a little chill in the air, but there's plenty more on the menu if you're looking for something heartier.
And whatever you order, save room for a cookie. Their chocolate chip and white chocolate coconut cookies are famous for a reason.
