WaterColor Boathouse

The Boathouse Paddle Club sits on the shores of Western Lake in WaterColor and is one of our favorite spots for getting out on the water. It's the only flat-water paddleboard rental location near Seaside, making it a great choice for beginners, families and anyone looking to experience one of 30A's rare coastal dune lakes.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Rent a stand-up paddleboard or kayak and explore Western Lake at your own pace. The calm, protected water makes it easy for first-timers, while more experienced paddlers can venture through the lake's winding waterways and beneath the Scenic Highway 30A bridge. Looking for something a little more adventurous? You can also experience the lake on an electric hydrofoil board. The Boathouse also offers outdoor fitness classes, including TRX, bootcamp and its signature RUN/SUP® classes.

The staff are friendly, patient and always happy to help. If it's your first time paddling, they'll walk you through everything you need to know before you head out on the water.

Good to Know Before You Book

You don't have to be staying in WaterColor to rent from the Boathouse. Reservations are recommended, especially during the busy summer season, and can be made online or by phone. Before you leave, stop by the shop to browse Boathouse merchandise, surf and coastal apparel from brands like Vuori, Florence Marine and Howzit Surf, plus Goodr sunglasses and other beach essentials.

Insider Tips

  • Reserve your rental ahead of time. Paddleboards and kayaks can book up quickly during spring break and summer, especially on calm mornings.
  • Go early if you can. Morning is our favorite time to paddle, when the water is at its calmest and Western Lake is especially peaceful.
  • Don't let experience hold you back. If it's your first time on a paddleboard or kayak, the staff will walk you through everything before you leave the dock.
  • Looking for a bigger adventure? Try an electric hydrofoil board or sign up for the RUN/SUP® class for a fun way to experience Western Lake.
  • Wear sandals or water shoes. They'll make it easier to get on and off the dock and are much more comfortable than going barefoot on a hot day.
