We've had a great time out on the water with Captain Cody, and 30A Inshore Charters is one of our favorite recommendations for anyone looking to experience fishing on Choctawhatchee Bay. Whether it's your first time holding a rod or you've been fishing for years, Cody has a way of making everyone feel comfortable while keeping the action going throughout the trip.
What to Expect During Your Charter
You'll fish the calm waters of Choctawhatchee Bay instead of heading into the open Gulf, making this a great option for families and first-time anglers. Depending on what's biting, Captain Cody targets redfish, speckled trout and Spanish mackerel, and his knowledge of these waters is second to none. Charters range from two to four hours. We think the two-hour trip is perfect for younger kids, while the longer trips give you more time to reel in dinner.
Good to Know Before You Book
Every trip is private, so it'll be just your group and Captain Cody on the boat. We recommend booking ahead, especially during the busy summer season. The launch is conveniently located off County Highway 393 near Santa Rosa Beach, and if you bring home a catch, ask Captain Cody where to have it cooked. He knows some great local spots.
Insider Tips
- If you're fishing with younger kids, we recommend the 2-hour trip. It's the perfect length to keep everyone engaged while giving you plenty of time to catch fish.
- Book a morning charter if you can. The temperatures are cooler, the bay is calmer and the fishing is often at its best early in the day.
- Ask Captain Cody what's biting before your trip. He knows these waters incredibly well and adjusts where you're fishing based on the conditions that day.
- Don't forget sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water. There's very little shade on the bay, and the Florida sun can be intense, especially during the summer.
- If you bring home a catch, ask Captain Cody where to have it cooked. It's one of our favorite ways to end a morning on the water.
