This week on “Escape to 30A” we explore Inlet Beach, South Walton’s easternmost community.  Inlet Beach is ideally located next to Rosemary Beach and is one of the fasting growing areas in SoWal. Inlet Beach is Home to One of South Walton’s Best Artificial Reefs

In 2017, the South Walton Artificial Reef Association installed “FISH REEF” just off the shores of Inlet Beach!  Specifically, you’ll find this large, Grouper fish shaped reef about 970 feet off of the South Orange Street Regional Access point.  Inlet Beach goers enjoy fishing, diving, and snorkeling around the reef as it’s loaded with marine life!

SWARA (South Walton Artificial Reef Association) is documenting the growth of the Inlet Beach reef (along with the others they’ve planted off the beaches of 30A) and is planning the launch of a future educational program.

Explore Camp Helen State Park on the east end of Inlet Beach

South Walton State Parks are among the best in Florida.  Just down the street from 30Avenue in Inlet Beach, you’ll find Camp Helen State Park. This 180 acre State Park is located on the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Powell, which is the largest coastal dune lake in Florida.

The park’s history is fascinating and from 1945 until 1987, Camp Helen was a resort for the employees of an Alabama textile mill. While exploring the park you’ll notice that some of those buildings have been restored so that folks can walk through them.  In fact, the main lodge is now a popular wedding venue!

Some Activities visitors partake in at Camp Helen State Park include but are not limited to; hiking, swimming, birding, and fishing.  If you’re looking to get out on the water, take advantage of their kayak and stand up paddleboard rentals.  You’ll find their rental program right at Camp Helen State Park on their Lake Powell shoreline.
